Social Ministries

The mission of Social Ministries is to educate the people of the Diocese of San Jose on the prinSocial Justiceciples of Catholic Social Teaching and its application to contemporary local, national, and international issues, to advocate for public policy which affirms human life and dignity and reflects a consistent life ethic, and to develop a constituency on social concerns. 

Social Ministries seeks to accomplish its mission through its various projects and programs in support of the Diocesan Pastoral Plan in which living out Catholic Social Teaching is one of the three critical issues.

Census 2010 - Be Counted!

Every 10 years, there is a census of all the people living the United States.  This is important because this count determines the distribution of more than $400 billion annually of government funding for crucial community services.

The Diocese of San Jose is partnering with the US Census Bureau to encourage all parishioners to complete the questionaire and be counted.  We will have bulletin and pulpit announcements posted online for all parishes and schools for the weeks leading up to Census Day on April 1.  In addition, Bishop McGrath has issued a statement encouraging all to participate and be counted.
