The Office for the Protection of Children and Vulnerable Adults (OPCVA) is committed to fostering healthy relationships within the Diocese of San José.
Incidents of sexual misconduct, as well as other forms of physical abuse, are profound tragedies, impacting not only the victims/survivors but our entire community. This misconduct is contrary to the fundamental dignity of each person, to our faith in Jesus Christ, and to the teachings of the Church.
Since 1984, the Diocese of San José has promoted youth protection best practices and reporting standards, which we have reviewed and updated several times over the past 35 years, training thousands of priests, religious, and laity – employees and volunteers; and parents, teachers, children, and youth – on preventing, recognizing, and reporting abuse.
We promise to protect all of God’s children through vigilance and compassion while using all available options to combat any such wrongdoings, or potential conduct violations, to ensure that justice and the universal truths of the Church are upheld within our Diocesan institutions.
We cannot remain complacent. We take our responsibility seriously and pledge to continue working tirelessly to provide safe and nurturing environments for all and fostering a path of healing and reconciliation for those who have suffered abuse.
To report abuse or suspected abuse, first call law enforcement; and second, contact the Diocese toll-free, at (844) 372-1691, or to our third-party reporting site, https://opcva.ethicspoint.com.
