Sr. Sofia Berrones, MCDP Bio

I am Sister Sofia Berrones, MCDP, and was born in Roswell, NM.  I graduated from Roswell High and left New Mexico to begin my studies with the Missionary Catechists of Divine Providence in San Antonio, TX.  I traveled 1700 miles from San Antonio, TX, to begin my ministry with this Tribunal and began a new life in sunny and splendid California!

As the Tribunal Moderator and the Ecclesiastical Notary, I assist the Judicial Vicar with the daily and numerous operations of the office.  I am the first person to meet as a Petitioner’s initial process for an annulment.  Assisting them in coming back to the Eucharist is paramount to every person who begins this process and it is an honor to help them navigate their way back to the church.

I have two Masters, one in Marriage and Family Counseling from Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, TX, and the other one in Pastoral Counseling from Fordham University, in New York City, NY.     I have two counseling licenses, one in Marriage and Family Counseling and the other in General Mental Health Counseling from the New Mexico Counseling and Therapy Board.  Both are retired.

I love to play Canasta and Gin Rummy.  I am an early-morning walker and love to travel.  In addition, I am a volunteer with our Diocesan Jail Ministry Program.
