Today, Pope Francis appointed Bishop Thomas A. Daly as the seventh Bishop of the Diocese of Spokane, Washington.

In the nearly four years that Bishop Daly has served as Auxiliary Bishop of San Jose, he has become part of our diocesan family, coming to know our priests, deacons, religious and the diverse communities that make up our local Church.  We have benefited particularly from Bishop Daly’s interest and expertise in Catholic Education and from his dedication to the welfare of the Catholic Schools of the Diocese.

Since July, Bishop Daly has been pastor of the Parishes of Saint Nicholas and Saint William in Los Altos.

Bishop Patrick J. McGrath, in expressing his congratulations to Bishop Daly, noted how much he appreciated having in Bishop Daly a true collaborator and coworker as shepherd of the flock of the Lord.  “I will miss Bishop Daly greatly, but I know that he will be a loving shepherd of the Church now entrusted to his care.”

Bishop Daly will be installed as Bishop of Spokane on Wednesday, May 20.  Until he moves to Washington, he will continue to exercise his ministry in the Diocese of San Jose.
