Rest in eternal peace: Monsignor John Sandersfeld, a retired priest of the Diocese of San Jose, passed away the morning of Wednesday August 3, 2022 in San Francisco. He was 82 years old. He attended St. Leo the Great elementary school in San Jose and later Bellarmine College Preparatory in San Jose. He was ordained for the Archdiocese of San Francisco in 1966. Locally, he served as parochial vicar at Saint Lawrence the Martyr Catholic Parish and School in Santa Clara, pastor of Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church in San Jose (1979-1987), vicar for clergy for the Diocese of San Jose (1988-1992) and was founding pastor of St. Francis of Assisi – A Catholic Community – San Jose, CA (1993-2009). In 2000 he was named a Monsignor by Pope John Paul II. Throughout his ministry he was committed to parish ministry and developed a passion for ministry on the east side of San Jose.
