POSITION SUMMARY:

The Youth Ministry Coordinator, under the supervision of the Associate Director of Youth Ministry, provides administrative, programmatic, and pastoral support to the Office of Youth Ministry. This role assists in the coordination of diocesan youth events, supports parish youth ministry leaders, and helps implement key initiatives outlined in the Diocesan Pastoral Plan, including the Youth Addendum. This position plays a vital role in sustaining the day-to-day operations of the office while helping expand and strengthen youth ministry efforts across the Diocese of San Jose.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING (and other duties as assigned):

Program Coordination & Support

Assist in the planning, coordination, and execution of diocesan youth ministry events, including retreats, conferences, service opportunities, and leadership programs.

Support registration processes and participant communication.

Coordinate logistics including scheduling, budgeting, communication, and risk management.

Support parish-based youth ministry efforts with resources, training, and consultation.

Help recruit, organize, and support youth ministers, leaders, and volunteers.

Administrative & Operational Support

Maintain databases, records, and communications.

Assist in maintaining regular communication with parishes, families, and youth via emails, newsletters, website updates, and social media.

Support budgeting and payment tracking.

Manage calendars and scheduling.

Help ensure compliance with diocesan policies, including safe environment requirements.

Assist in facilitating the evaluation of program effectiveness and providing reports to leadership.Communication & Collaboration

Serve as another point of contact for parish youth ministers and campus ministers.

Foster a welcoming environment that encourages youth participation in the sacraments and parish life.

Collaborate with diocesan offices, and parish staff.

Maintain parish contact directories.

Support communication strategies for ministry promotion.

Pastoral Plan & Youth Addendum Support

Assist in implementing the Youth Addendum.

Gather and analyze youth ministry data.

Support expansion of resources and training.

Required Skills/Abilities

Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with diocesan and parish officers and staff as well as youth ministers, leaders and volunteers.

Ability to read and understand church documents, guidelines and theological and catechetical documents.

Ability to write emails, reports, evaluations, newsletters and announcements.

QUALIFICATIONS TO PERFORM THE JOB SUCCESSFULLY:

Education and/or Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree. preferably in Theology, Pastoral Ministry, Religious Education, or related field.

2–5 years of experience in youth ministry or parish ministry.

Language Skills:

Ability to read, write and speak fluent English at a professional level. Ability to relate and communicate with a wide range of ethnic and cultural communities. Excellent composition and writing skills. Spanish preferred.

Computational Skills:

Ability to create and manage a budget.

Technical Skills:

Requires problem solving, decision making, ability to see cause and effect, and forecasting.

Microsoft Office 365, Google Drive, Adobe Suite, Social Media platforms.

Ability to create and manage a budget.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Valid driver’s license.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for extended periods of time, use hands for computer and administrative tasks, and communicate effectively in person, by phone, and via video conferencing. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach, and move about event spaces. This position may require the ability to lift and/or move materials and equipment up to 20 pounds (e.g., boxes, supplies, signage). During events and retreats, the employee may be required to remain on their feet for extended periods of time and assist with setup and breakdown of materials.

Physical Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will work in an individual cubicle. The offices are situated next to one another. The space is wheelchair accessible.

Working Conditions:

The employee must be able to work collaboratively, share responsibilities, and multi-task. The employee is expected to work some evenings and some weekends. Requires frequent travel to visit parish locations within the Diocese and occasional travel outside the Diocese.

Other Requirements:

Must be a practicing Catholic and have in-depth knowledge of Church structure, culture, and its mission.

Has the passion for working with youth and young adults.

Ability to articulate and communicate the vision, mission, and philosophy of the Diocese of San Jose.

Knowledge of the Diocese of San Jose’s Pastoral Plan, specifically the Youth Addendum, recommended.

Proven leadership ability with community, religious, social and professional organizations.

Familiarity with Santa Clara County, and the roles and responsibilities of parishes and dioceses in the U.S.

An eagerness to collaborate with colleagues.

Ability to build professional trust, partner with stakeholders, and lead collaboration within and among diocesan offices.

Exceptional communication skills.

Adept at collecting, analyzing, and responding to multiple forms of data.

Ability and willingness to operate with a complex, culturally and economically diverse environment, including a multicultural work force.

Scheduled weekly hours: 24 hours

Compensation: $28.96 – $36.19
