The Diocese of San José is pleased to announce the appointment of Pamela Lyons as the new Superintendent of Catholic Schools, following a nationwide search and discernment process. Lyons brings more than two decades of experience in Catholic education and will begin her leadership in the Diocese on August 1, 2025.

“Pamela Lyons is a nationally respected voice in Catholic education,” said Bishop Oscar Cantú and we are thrilled to welcome her to the Diocese of San José. Her faith, vision, and proven leadership will serve our students, educators, and families with great integrity and care. This appointment marks a key step forward in advancing our Diocesan Pastoral Plan and deepening the mission of Catholic education across our schools.”

Pamela Lyons most recently served as the Superintendent of Schools for the Archdiocese of San Francisco. In that role, she led efforts to strengthen Catholic identity, support school sustainability, promote academic excellence, and form leaders rooted in faith. Her earlier experience includes service as a teacher, principal, and Associate Superintendent. She holds a Master of Catholic School Leadership from the University of Notre Dame and a B.A. in English from St. Mary’s College.

“I am honored and excited to join the Diocese of San José,” said Lyons. “Catholic schools are a vital ministry of the Church, and I look forward to collaborating with pastors, principals, educators, and families to nurture vibrant school communities where students grow in faith, knowledge, and service.”

Her appointment supports the Diocese’s broader pastoral vision—Renewed in Christ, Together in Mission—which calls for strengthened leadership, vibrant parish and school partnerships, and renewed efforts to evangelize through Catholic education.
