Rev Fr Severo Kuupuo (Seth Kupo) was born in Nandom in the then Northern Region (Now Upper West Region) of Ghana on 18th May, 1963 to George and Rose Kuupuo. He was the eldest of 8 children. Fr. Seth was raised in a devout Catholic family whose deep faith shaped his vocation.
He had his basic education at St Paul’s Catholic Primary from 1971 to 1976 and excelled in the competitive entrance examination through which he had admission to and studied at St Francis Xavier Minor Seminary, Wa from 1978 to 1982. He then proceeded to St. Michael’s Secondary School in Nandom for 2 years 6th Form education under the educational system of Ghana at the time from 1982 to 1984 after which he enrolled at St Victor’s Major Seminary in Tamale, Ghana for his formation from 19784 until 1991.
He had his pastoral year at Kaleo in 1990 and on 16th December, he was ordained at St. Andrew’s Catholic Cathedral, Wa by then Bishop Gregory Kpiebayaa. After his ordination he was first assigned to St Joseph’s Parish in Jirapa and later returned to teach at his alma mater, St Francis Xavier Minor Seminary until 1997 when he attended Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA. Having successfully completed his further studies he returned to Ghana to serve the Wa Diocese as the Diocesan Financial Administrator until 2009. During that period, he was elected Secretary of the National Union of Ghana Catholic Diocesan Priests Association for 2 consecutive terms.
In 2010, Fr Kuupuo returned to the USA to pursue his PhD and brought along his priestly ministry. He served faithfully in the Diocese of San Jose and his assignments included St. Joseph of Cupertino, St Thomas Aquinas Parish in Palo Alto, St. Catherine of Alexandria Church in Morgan Hill and St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception in Los Gatos.
Since July 2024, he has been in residence at Church of the Resurrection in Sunnyvale and served as Catholic Chaplain at Stanford Health Care-Stanford Hospital. He suddenly became ill in mid-september, 2025 and passed on October 9, 2025 at El Camino Hospital at the age of 62.
