The Passions of Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz and Toni Morrison, May 8, 2025, 4:00pm-5:30pm, Santa Clara University, Library and Learning Commons, This illustrated talk, delivered by one of the country’s most renowned scholars of religion, explores the intellectual passions of Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz and Toni Morrison whose writings were powerful forms of resistance to social sufferings that overwhelmed their worlds. Davíd Carrasco is a Mexican American historian of religions with particular interest in Mesoamerican cities as symbols, and the Mexican-American borderlands. His work has included a special emphasis on the religious dimensions of Latino experience: mestizaje, the myth of Aztlan, transculturation, and La Virgen de Guadalupe. Carrasco has received the Mexican Order of the Aztec Eagle, the highest honor the Mexican government gives to a foreign national. Click here for information and register.
