DESCRIPTION:Join the Tech and the Human Spirit initiative and the Ignatian Center’s Bannan Forum for the 2019 Bannan Memorial Lecture. \nFr. Antonio Spadaro\, S.J.\, Editor in Chief of La Civiltà Cattolica and a Consultor to the Pontifical Council for Culture\, will deliver this year’s lecture. \nBecause the Internet has changed and is changing the ways in which we think and act\, it must also be changing the ways in which we think faith. Fr. Antonio Spadaro will question how technologies redefine not only the ways in which we do things but also our being and therefore the way we perceive reality\, the world\, others\, and God. “Does the digital revolution affect faith in any sense?” The answer is an emphatic yes. But how\, then\, are we to live well in the digital age? \nThe digital environment is not merely an external instrument that facilitates human communication or a purely virtual world\, but part of the daily experience of many people\, a new “anthropological space” that is reshaping the way we think\, know\, and express ourselves. Naturally\, this calls for a new understanding of faith so that it makes sense to people who live and work in the digital media environment. In developing the notion of cybertheology\, Spadaro seeks to propose an intelligence of faith (intellectus fidei) in the digital age. \nDownload Flyer

DESCRIPTION:America was founded in part on the concept of religious freedom. Many today consider Muslims a grave threat to that founding principle. Is Islam incompatible with the free exercise of religion? Grasp the concepts\, understand the propositions\, then you be the judge.\nHamza Yusuf is president\, co-founder\, and senior faculty member at Zaytuna College\, the first Muslim liberal arts college in the United States. He is also an advisor to Stanford University’s Program in Islamic Studies and the Center for Islamic Studies at Berkeley’s Graduate Theological Union. Yusuf serves as a member of the board of advisors of George Russell’s One Nation\, a national philanthropic initiative that promotes pluralism and inclusion in America. In addition\, he serves as vice-president for the Forum for Promoting Peace in Muslim Societies\, which was founded and is currently presided over by Shaykh Abdallah bin Bayyah\, one of the top jurists and masters of Islamic sciences in the world. Most recently\, Yusuf contributed to the writing of the Marrakesh Declaration (2016) in Morocco affirming the rights of religious minorities in Muslim-majority countries\, and met with Pope Francis in Rome to discuss the implications of this declaration.\nPlease register for this free event.\n*Please note the venue for this event has changed.
