DESCRIPTION:As we move into this new (fiscal) year\, the office of Youth and Young Adult Ministry would like to create an opportunity for people to be refreshed\, recommitted and rededicated to our mission as the workers in the Lord’s vineyard. We are planning to dedicate one Holy Hour of adoration for the youth and young adults of our Diocese at Our Lady of Peace Church in Santa Clara\, CA. \nThis is an opportunity for us to gather as one body of Christ and pray for our teens\, their parents\, their concerns\, our young adults\, our respective ministries\, our pastors and one another. This is an invitation and if you are available\, we’d love to have you. DESCRIPTION:The icon of “Our Lady of Czestochowa” (“the Black Madonna”) is reputed to have been “written” on Mary’s table top from her house in Nazareth by Luke the Evangelist. She has been credited with numerous miracles and healings – both of a spiritual and physical nature. A beautiful copy of this icon has been blessed and consecrated at the monastery of Jasna Gora in Poland\,   where the original is kept\, and entrusted to the defense of life and family. Now\, after traveling 40\,000 miles from Vladivostok in Russia through 24 countries in Europe\, she will be visiting Our Lady of Peace Church in Santa Clara on her global pilgrimage. Please join us as we welcome her to Our Lady of Peace Church to ask for her protection of life and family as well as personal petitions. A welcoming ceremony will be held at 11:30a.m. on Thursday July 31 just prior to the 12 noon Mass and she will head to Sacrament on Friday\, August 1\, 2014. \nWe welcome your visit. DESCRIPTION:We invite all Young Adults (ages 21-39) to a camping and hiking Trip at Big Basin Redwood Forest State Park. We will meet at Our Lady of Peace Church on Friday\,   June 27th for noon Mass and will then carpool to the park. We will set up our camps and have an evening of hiking and relaxation. On Saturday\,   we will have a long hike\, with Holy Mass celebrated by Fr. Javier Ibarra\, I.V.E. in the middle of our hike. We will gather again for dinner and enjoy a roaring bonfire! DESCRIPTION:Join Our Lady of Peace Church for a full day of activities in appreciation of our Lord Jesus’ Divine Mercy. Confessions will be heard from 7am-9pm\, Video footage of the Canonization will be displayed on our 25′ screen in the gym (coffee/lemonade provided)\, His Excellency Patrick J. McGrath\, Bishop of San Jose\, will preside over our 2pm Outdoor Mass after which our new 7′ Tall Statue imported from Italy will be unveiled and dedicated. A procession with a first class relic of St. John Paul II will follow around the shrine with time allowed for veneration of the relic. Stay for a finger food reception 4pm-7pm\, during which all are welcome to visit the St. John Paul II Library (4:30pm-6:30pm). Hospitality is provided for visiting clergy. \nParishes have been mailed posters which can be posted to invite parishioners. DESCRIPTION:Join us for an evening with Catholic author Joseph Pearce as he shares his conversion story\, the subject of his new book published by Saint Benedict Press\, “Race with the Devil: My Journey from Racial Hatred to Rational Love”. \nQ&A session and book signing to follow talk. \nBefore he was the world’s foremost Catholic biographer\, Joseph Pearce was a leader of the National Front\, a British-nationalist\, white-supremacist group. Before he published books highlighting and celebrating the great Catholic cultural tradition\, he disseminated literature extolling the virtues of the white race\, and calling for the banishment of all non-white from Britain. \nPearce and his cohorts were at the center of the racial and nationalist tensions—often violent—that swirled around London in the late-1970s and early 80s. Eventually Pearce became a top member of the National Front\, and the editor of its newspaper\, The Bulldog. He was a full-time revolutionary. \nIn 1982 he was imprisoned for six months for hate speech\, but he came out with more anger\, and more resolve. Several years later\, he was imprisoned again\, this time for a year and it spurred a sea change in his life. \nIn Race with the Devil: My Journey from Racial Hatred to Rational Love\, Pearce himself takes the reader through his journey from racist revolutionary to Christian\, including: \nThe youthful influences that lead him to embrace the National Front and their racist platform His dark\, angry\, exhilarating but ultimately empty days as a revolutionary on the front lines His imprisonment and subsequent dark night of the soul The role that Catholic luminaries such as G. K. Chesterton\, Hilaire Belloc\, and C. S. Lewis played in his conversion from racist radical to joyful Christian And his eventual reception in the Catholic Church \nRace with the Devil is one man’s incredible journey to Christ\, but it also much more.
