Bishop McGrath, along with Bishop Cantύ, is deeply saddened by the tragic shooting Saturday morning at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh, Pa., which killed 11 people.
Citing the statement by Cardinal Daniel N. DiNardo of Galveston-Houston and President of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops calling for prayer and action to put an end to violence, the San Jose Bishops agree “that violence as a response to political, racial or religious differences will not be tolerated and must be confronted with all possible effort.”
As our Holy Father Pope Francis said a day after the shooting “all of us are wounded by this inhuman act of violence. The Pope prayed for God “to help us to extinguish the flames of hatred that develop in our societies.”
Bishops McGrath and Cantύ ask that you continue to keep in your prayers the victims of this tragic crime – and their families. “We stand with our Jewish brothers and sisters,” they said, “in this moment of loss and sadness.”
