Welcome the Refugee

The “Welcome the Refugee” Team partners with Catholic Charities and the Migration and Refugee Services of the United States Catholic Bishops to welcome and settle refugees. Participating parishes provide welcome and hospitality through:

  • Personal contact – from the arrival at the airport, to English as a Second Language practice opportunities, transportation assistance and job mentoring
  • Group engagement by providing clothing, household goods, furnishings, and rental assistance
  • Parish families may also become foster parents of refugee youth under 18 and not accompanied by adult family members

The Welcome the Refugee Team with Catholic Charities staff:

  • Provides parish groups the training to organize Parish Refugee Resettlement sponsorships
  • Provides speakers for parish and school groups on refugee resettlement issues and stories
  • Provide local stories and contacts for National Migration Week activities sponsored by the US Conference of Catholic Bishops
  • Provides individual case management and financial support for Refugee Foster Care through Catholic Charities
