Summer is in full swing. Time to rest, relax, and take a vacation. But those engaged in human trafficking rarely take a break, just as our fight against trafficking, in all its forms, must continue. Join us for an educational event at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Los Gatos on Thursday, August 31 (see the event section for more details). At CNEHT we are busy updating our website to bring you more information and resources. We are also preparing presentations and workshops on human trafficking for this year’s Faith Formation Conference. This year, the conference will be held at the Santa Clara Convention Center on Friday & Saturday, November 3 & 4. So save the dates and look for more information in upcoming editions of this newsletter.
In the meantime, to highlight the need for vigilance in the fight against modern day slavery, this issue features the story of Sarah Balabagan, a victim of labor trafficking. Sarah shared her story with members of the Diocesan Restorative Justice team during a training session. Sr. Caritas Foster (pictured below, right, with Sarah) gave an overview of human trafficking followed by a video taken after Sarah’s release from the United Arab Emirates where she was recruited from the Philippines to work. .
