Canyon Heights Academy seeks a vocationally-driven leader for the role of Principal who is unapologetically Catholic and committed to his or her faith. This leader will need to be highly relational, visionary, and committed to embracing and promoting the school’s mission and core values. Learning from and celebrating the past, while leading in the present and envisioning the future will be expected of this school leader.

Position Overview
1. The Principal has the responsibility of achieving the school’s mission of evangelization and Catholic formation by establishing an outstanding school implementing the Integral Formation SM method of education as specified in the RC School Principles.
2. The Principal directs the academic and formation teams in designing and delivering a high quality program of education that is successful in meeting the formation needs of the students.
3. The Principal, in conjunction with the formation team, is responsible for integrating the parents into the school community; he/she seeks to instill an understanding and love for the mission of the school and to build a sense of community among the school faculty, staff, and families. The Principal is responsible for achieving a high level of parent satisfaction and student retention.
4. The Principal is responsible for the recruitment, professional development, and management of the faculty and academic staff. He/She works to build a strong academic team, one that is capable of and committed to the integral formation of students and to achieving academic excellence.
5. The Principal works closely with the admissions team, ensuring that students admitted to the school are well prepared to succeed in the school program.
6. The Principal ensures the school maintains the requirements of all educational and accreditation organizations for which they have membership.
7. The Principal is responsible for seeking the most current information provided by RC Education on policies, procedures, and the most effective means of implementing the method of Integral Formation SM by maintaining regular communication with RC Education and attending all RC Schools professional development courses.
8. The Principal carries out the responsibilities of the position with an awareness of being an apostle of Christ, especially with his/her testimony of faith, virtuous personal life and professional dedication to the mission of the school.

Qualifications: The Principal should meet the following qualifications:
a. Masters degree in Educational Leadership, preferred
b. Minimum of five years teaching experience
c. Demonstrated proficiency with curriculum development and implementation
d. Demonstrated proficiency with teacher professional development
e. Exceptional leadership and teamwork capabilities
f. Excellent social qualities, a sound character, and a firm and kind manner
g. Excellent and proven people management skills
h. Excellent communication skills
i. Strong organizational abilities, sound judgment, and good common sense.

j. Sound knowledge of and affinity for the Integral Formation SM method of education
k. Practicing Catholic and formator with an excellent moral reputation, apostolic
zeal for working for the Church, whose vocation is to lead, serve, and form the
faculty and staff of the school

Reporting Structure
10. The Principal reports to the Executive Director and is a member of the management team.
11. The Principal directly supervises the chaplain, dean of students, vice principal of early childhood, athletic director, registrar, teachers as well as any administrative staff associated with this office.

Specific Responsibilities
12. The specific responsibilities of the Principal include, but are not limited to, the following:
Planning & Management
a. Contributing to the development of the school’s long-term growth strategy
b. Coordinating the development and implementation of the Principal’s office
annual program, calendar, and budget
c. Developing the school calendar and class schedules
d. Customizing and recommending any required changes/improvements to the
approved Parent/Student Handbook and Faculty Handbook
e. Overseeing the implementation of the Integral Formation SM method of education and the approved curriculum
f. Participating in management team meetings
g. Meeting weekly with direct reports
h. Overseeing the daily operations of the school
i. Overseeing the organization and promotion of school events, contests, and competitions throughout the year
j. Overseeing the operation of an appropriate selection of extracurricular activities and clubs to support the integral formation of students
k. Reporting regularly and communicating effectively with the management team and the Executive Director
l. Maintaining regular communication with RC Education on matters of policy and procedure regarding the implementation of Integral Formation SM
m. Attending all professional development courses for Principals offered by RC Education

Staff
a. Hiring and supervising qualified faculty and academic support staff
b. Implementing an effective program of performance management and professional development for faculty and staff
c. Building a strong faculty that is capable and committed to integrally forming the students and achieving academic excellence
d. Forming a highly qualified academic team: deans, vice principal, teachers, support staff
e. Ensuring regular meetings are being held with each staff and faculty member
f. Ensuring teachers are implementing the RC Schools Curriculum, as well as effective classroom management methods, teaching methods, assessment tools, and appropriate amounts of homework and quality assignments
g. Conducting informal and formal teacher observations
h. Integrating faculty and staff into the mission of the school
i. Building a strong culture of charity and teamwork
j. Maintaining high staff morale and achieving faculty retention goals

Students
a. Monitoring student performance and achievement, ensuring that education and formation goals are being me
b. Endeavoring to know each student; greeting students at the beginning and end of each day
c. Ensuring that students are provided with personalized attention and leadership opportunities that will allow them to exercise their strengths and talents
d. Building a cohesive school spirit with a Christ-centered mystique among students
e. Ensuring discipline expectations are communicated and understood by students
f. Overseeing all student discipline in the school, ensuring consistent formative and motivational methods are employed
g. Ensuring student supervision and safety policies are fully implemented
h. Approving recommendations to retain or not-readmit students; approving recommendations to suspend or expel students
i. Working to increase overall student satisfaction with the school and achieve student retention goals

Families
a. Providing families with personalized attention and encouraging them to support the mission of the school
b. Implementing timely, quality, and effective family/school communication systems
c. Organizing regular parent/teacher conferences
d. Motivating the teachers and staff to maintain regular, professional, and positive communications with parents
e. Working with the formation team to offer family formation opportunities
f. Overseeing parent association, delegating oversight of sub-committees as appropriate
g. Working to increase overall parent satisfaction with the school and achieve family retention goals

Admissions
a. Coordinating admissions testing

Program of Education
a. Establishing and maintaining an environment in which students achieve standards of academic excellence, reaching the heights of their intellectual potential and overall integral formation
b. Ensuring a solid and challenging academic program that includes and aligns with the RC School Curriculum standards.
c. Recommending any required changes/improvements to the approved school program
d. Implementing appropriate standardized tests and student assessment tools
e. Implementing Child Study Team program to provide for student assistance
f. Finalizing the exam schedule and ensuring that all report cards are reviewed by
the dean and vice principals prior to their distribution
g. Ensuring current and accurate student records are maintained
h. Managing efforts to secure and retain necessary school accreditations
