Position Description:
 This is a teaching position at St. Leo the Great School, located in the Midtown area of San Jose.  The school is walking distance from the Diridon Train Station and the future Google Campus on West San Fernando Street and Race St.  As a classroom teacher, you will be responsible primarily for the planning, implementation, and assessment of a diverse class of students for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade science.  The position could become full-time when combined with other subject areas and homeroom responsibilities.  The school has all of the resources necessary to implement a dynamic NGSS science curriculum in a self-contained classroom and access to a new Maker Space for group projects and design challenges.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Be knowledgeable in a variety of sciences (general, environmental, physics, chemistry, and biology.)
  • Develop and plan robust NGSS standards-based science lessons appropriate for middle school learners
  • Implement explicit instruction for middle schools students with diverse learning needs.
  • Manage a positive learning environment with strong classroom management skills.
  • Support a faith-based Catholic environment
  • Faculty members are assigned other duties, including yard duty, as well as other responsibilities that may be assigned by the school administration.
  • This position could be combined with homeroom responsibilities and teaching of middle school religion and other middle school subjects to make a full time teaching position.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree is required in a science related field
  • A valid teaching credential is preferred or enrollment in an accredited program
  • Experience with and knowledge of the NGSS and CCSS is required.
  • Experience in working with middle school students.
  • Have a strong work ethic and a passion for sharing the love of science with children.
  • Is organized and is a team player, able to work as part of a middle school team
  • Is willing to do duties as assigned (e.g. yard supervision)
