Holy Spirit Parish is seeking a dynamic and engaging communication strategist to contribute to the growth and engagement of the Parish.

The Communication Specialist, in collaboration with the pastor and lay staff, is responsible for developing and delivering all parish communications.  This person ensures that communications reflect the teachings of the Church, the mission of the Parish, the priorities of parish leadership and are accessible to parishioners and others who seek information.

Encourage and provide opportunities for all parishioners to follow their baptismal call in the giving of their gifts to ministry.



Collaborates with staff and councils to recruit, train, support, evaluate and recognize ministers.  Works with councils to identify candidates for leadership positions.

Identifies and promotes opportunities for ministry in both the church and the larger community.

Assist parishioners in identifying and using their gifts for ministry.

Collaborates with the Community Building Events team to engage the community

Assist with fund management in ParishSOFT Giving and online donations.

Parish Communications:

Input all calendar items for the coming fiscal year

Process new requests throughout the year, as needed

Work with staff and volunteers in scheduling and finding facilities for their events

Help find resolution for facilities with conflicting calendar dates

Get approval for events not on the pre-approved list, e.g. third party meetings, special requests, etc.

Social Media:

Create a weekly plan for Social Media Communications

Process new requests throughout the year

Create/edit social media posts and contents

Website and Email Communications:

Upload homilies and bulletin each week

Extract and edit homily for transcription

Responsible for parish’s general email and inbox

Update home page: Mass times and featured content

Update web pages with current information per the communications plan and ministry requests

Connect with ministry leads for bulletin content, create posts to add to bulletin, find graphics

Create registration forms – ParishSOFT Giving, Google, Office form

Graphic Design:

Work on special graphic design projects as needed – programs, mailings, logos, banner, etc.

Create cover for livestreams

Safe Environment Program:

Point of contact for OPCVA at the Diocese and attend Diocesan meetings as appropriate

Implement the plan for Diocesan SEP Policies

Ensure compliance with Diocesan policies

Maintain all volunteers in WorkDay and monitor compliance quarterly or as needed

Make sure all students have Virtus training or signed waiver

Perform annual internal audit in April-June

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in related field is a plus

Experience coordinating volunteers and volunteer programs a plus

Ability and experience in team building and group process

Ability and commitment to collaboratively with councils, staff, and community leaders

Language and Skills and Reasoning Ability

Strong verbal and written communication skills; proficiency in composing reports, correspondence and letters and publishing newsletter and flyers in English and ability to understand and explain policies and answer questions.  Ability to solve practical problems and respond to a variety of situations.  Ability to understand and apply guidelines and organizational ability required.

Technical Skills

Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic knowledge of internet applications and social media platforms.  Parish SOFT experience is a plus.

Physical Demands

While performing duties of this job, the employee must be able to transport materials and equipment (up to 30 pounds) to and from various locations.  The employee is regularly required to sit for extended periods of time, use hands in repetitive motion tasks, handle objects, talk and hear.  Specific vision abilities required include close vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Physical Environment

While performing the job duties, the employee will work in an individual office with a door.

Working Conditions

The job is a non-exempt position, eligible for benefits.  The employee is expected to work 30-40 hours per week.  The hours will be on a flexible schedule as work demands.  Some evening and weekend work will be required.
