Soul Dreams
Finding God’s Will In Your Deepest Desires
(Reflection on How To Know If Your Dreams Are God’s Dreams by Bo Sanchez)

I read this book called, “How to Know If Your Dreams are God’s Dreams.” It was a great book to read when I was making plans for my future… family, career, health, travel, and faith. I had all these things I wanted to achieve, things I knew would make me happier, but I didn’t know where to begin, let alone how.

This book helped me bring it down a notch… to stop and think of the most important thing when we plan our lives and when we get inspired to build our dreams. As the author says, “Sharpen your focus on what you really want in life and what God wants for your life! When you’re at peace with your dreams, powerful things will happen and you’ll reach real happiness and true abundance more quickly”.

First, we need to choose the dreams that we feel intensely about… our deepest desires. We need to choose the dreams that spring out from our soul, our Soul Dreams.

I realize that our Soul Dreams and God’s Dreams for us (or God’s Will) are one and the same. He knew us even when we were still in our mothers’ wombs. He planted His Will deep into our hearts so that when we grow up, we can dig dip into our hearts and realize that they are also our deepest desires. But as time goes by, our childlike hearts (Matthew 18:3-4) become weak as earthly and shallow desires fill our adulthood. This is when we must try our hardest to peel off those shallow desires from our hearts, no matter how painful, so that we can once again reach down and pull up God’s Will for us.

Signs of a Soul Dream:
The Dream Is Connected to Your Most Important Values
It must be rooted to who you are as a person, you, who has been molded because of the experiences of your past, and the inspiration of your future.

The Dream Must Bring You Closer to God
What do you think is God’s purpose (Exodus 9:16) for you? You have to feel God’s Presence in every way. You make your dream come true to fulfill your purpose in life.

The Dream Must Make You Happy in the Deepest Way Possible

You will know if you’re fulfilling your Soul Dreams by simply asking yourself if you’re happy. Not the flippant happiness of a roller coaster ride or a 30-minute sitcom on TV. But the deep kind of happiness that only happens when you know you’re fulfilling your destiny.

Focus on Soul Dreams — and the bigger the better. Stretch! Expand! And believe that this is the reason why you were born.

As we celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, this coming 21st, I leave you with this, and may you truly find your Soul Dreams in your lives.

I say to you today, my friends, so even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the American dream.

I have a dream that one day every valley shall be exalted, every hill and mountain shall be made low, the rough places will be made plain, and the crooked places will be made straight, and the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together. – Martin Luther King, Jr., I Have A Dream
