Respect Life

Life is a precious gift from God.  Therefore every human life is sacred from conception to natural death. The life and dignity of every person must be respected and protected at every stage and in every condition. “The right to life is the first and most fundamental principle of human rights that leads Catholics to actively work for a world of greater respect for human life and greater commitment to justice and peace.” Human Life And Dignity, USCCB

Human life must be respected and protected absolutely from the moment of conception. From the first moment of his existence, a human being must be recognized as having the rights of a person – among which is the inviolable right of every innocent being to life.  Catechism of the Catholic Church 2270

“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, And before you were born I consecrated you; I have appointed you a prophet to the nations.”

Jeremiah 1:5

“My frame was not hidden from You, When I was made in secret, And skillfully wrought in the depths of the earth; Your eyes have seen my unformed substance; And in Your book were all written The days that were ordained for me, When as yet there was not one of them.”

Psalm 139:15-16

The Respect Life Office of the Diocese of San Jose is dedicated to advancing a culture of life within Catholic parishes and beyond.  We serve to promote a variety of activities rooted in prayer and fasting, including resources, education, special events, and advocacy.  The ministry originates from a commitment to treat every human life with dignity and respect, particularly the most vulnerable.
