Rev. Mr. John Tu Hoang was born and raised in San Jose California. Both of his parents have recently passed within the last few years. His father Pierre Dam Hoang passed on February 3, 2016 and mother Theresa Tuyet Hoang passed on May 5, 2018. He is the youngest in a family of five. He has four sisters (Cecilia Thu Hoang, Mary Trinh Hoang, Madalyn Thuy Hoang, and Catherine Thanh Hoang), in which three are married with kids, and one brother (Robert Tuan Hoang) married with kids.  

He grew up attending various public schools in the Eastside Union District, starting with Painter Elementary, Brooktree Elementary, Cherrywood Elementary, and Morrill Middle School. John got his diploma at Independence high school and after that went to De-Anza College for a few years. During that time he had various Jobs (Flea Market Security, Claims assistant adjuster, UPS loader, Semiconductor Technician, San Jose Public Library employee) and that brought him to go in and out of school. He was also a disc jockey turntablist, playing at various clubs, house parties, and weddings.

When John felt called to the priesthood he was able to persevere and earn his AA degree at Foothill College in 2012, and during that time he was an aspirant for the Diocese of San Jose living at the Blessed Miguel Pro formation house. He entered St. Patrick’s Seminary in Menlo Park 2012 and got his BA degree 2014. After that, he continued 2 years of theology there, and spent 1 year on his pastoral internship at Our Lady of La Vang parish in San Jose. Now he is a deacon, ordained on November 3, 2018, and finishing up his last year of Theology at St. Mary of the Lake Seminary in Mundelein Illinois. John says, “I know that God and Our Blessed Mother has helped me throughout my journey of discernment to the priesthood and I am confident that it is God’s will where I am today.”
