The Assistant Principal at Holy Spirit School assists the operational leader of the school site. She/he assists in the spiritual, instructional, and administrative capacity of the school.  She/he supports the effective operation of the school as a Drexel School System educational institution. She/he supports the creation of an environment that fosters Catholic faith formation, academic excellence, and vitality and viability.

The Preferred Candidate for Assistant Principal 

  • is a practicing Catholic
  • must be in possession of an M.A. or an administrative credential

Job Description – Principal

The Drexel School Principal is the operational leader of the school site. He/she is the spiritual, instructional, and administrative head of the school, and is responsible for the effective operation of the school as a Drexel School System educational institution. He/she is the primary agent for creating an environment that fosters Catholic faith formation, academic excellence, and vitality and viability. He/she is the primary, visible head of the school, responsible for the active engagement of the school community at large. He/she recognizes that Drexel Schools have a particular emphasis on sustainability-focused operations that are committed to academic achievement, enrollment/retention and operational vitality.

The responsibilities of the principal include but are not limited to:

  1. Catholicity:
  • Creating a welcoming atmosphere for all members of the school community (faculty, staff, students, parents, alumni and donors)
  • Creating a climate that celebrates the Catholic faith
  • Maintaining a positive relationship with the parish Pastor, including establishing engagement with the school at special events, in religious instruction and at the celebrations of Mass and the Sacraments
  • Supporting positive and collaborative relationships among all members of the community with particular focus on a high standard for the Christian Code of Conduct
  • Consistently and strategically presents the mission and vision of the school to all community stakeholders
  1. Academic Program:
  • Developing a rigorous educational program that meets the needs of the existing student population
  • maintaining a consistency in academic excellence in line with the school’s accreditation standards and driven by ongoing assessment of all available performance and growth data
  • working closely with the Curriculum/Instruction Specialist and Associate Superintendent of Drexel Schools to ensure compliance with the instructional and academic expectations of the Drexel School System
  • Community Engagement:
  • Maintaining a strong, positive and public image within the school community
  • Developing multiple opportunities for dialogue and exchange within the community for current and prospective families and faculty/staff members
  • Maintaining an accessible disposition that invites dialogue with school parents, students and members of the faculty and staff
  • Supporting school and appropriate parish events with attendance and effort to benefit the public image of the school 
  1. Personnel:
  • Cultivating leadership among faculty, staff and parents that creates an inviting, welcoming, learning environment in which the diversity among students on all levels is both respected and appreciated
  • Providing professional development for faculty that advances the academic and spiritual goals of the school
  • Recruiting, hiring, supporting, and supervising faculty and staff, including full compliance with the expectations of the 5D+ teacher evaluation tool
  • Supporting teachers in the completion of the ABL program and the implementation of Blended Learning and Station Rotation in the classroom
  1. Site Operations:
  • Preparing the school budget in collaboration with the school advisory committee and finance committee, seeking approval of the budget and tuition/fee structure with System Controller prior to publication
  • monitoring of the budget once it has been approved
  • Maintaining the physical environment of the facilities and structures by ensuring their cleanliness and safety
  • Prioritizing strategic items as defined by the Site Annual Action Plan (per the DSS Strategic Plan)
  • Engaging and informing essential governing personnel in all cases requiring advisement, intervention and/or oversight
  1. Marketing/Enrollment and Retention:
  • Creating and executing a comprehensive marketing plan that focuses on driving enrollment
  • Creating and maintaining a retention plan that prioritizes the retention of current school families
  • Engaging faculty, staff, students and parents in best practices and essential messages for the marketing and positioning of the school
  • Complying with all Drexel System recommendations for marketing, admissions and positioning collateral
  • Drexel School System Participation:
  • ensuring that the site complies with the governing principles of the Drexel School System
  • Evaluating the operational and academic program for alignment and fulfillment of the Drexel School System expectations
  • Enthusiastically aligning site operations and academic practices to those priorities outlined by the Drexel system
  • Monitoring the compliance of all personnel with Drexel expectations, including but not limited to certification programs, meetings, professional developments and other presented opportunities and collaborations
