SUMMARY:"After God: Contemporary Continental Philosophy of Religion"
DESCRIPTION:A lecture by Richard Kearney (Boston College). Professor Kearney holds the Charles B. Seelig Chair of Philosophy at Boston College and has served as a Visiting Professor at University College Dublin\, the University of Paris (Sorbonne)\, the Australian Catholic University\, and the University of Nice. \nThis talk will discuss the new “religious turn” in contemporary continental thought. Citing such figures as Levinas\, Derrida and Ricoeur\, the question is posed: how do we rethink God after the death of God? Beyond the poles of dogmatic theism and atheism\, a third option will be explored: ana-theism. \nClick here for more information.

SUMMARY:Catholic On Purpose: The Evangelization Plan for San Jose\, Presented by Father Joe Kim
DESCRIPTION:Father Joe is the Parochial Vicar at Holy Spirit Parish in San Jose. Having graduated from St. Francis Cabrini School\, Saratoga High School\, and what he calls the finest public institution in the US\, the University of California at Berkeley\, his career in engineering took a different turn in 2005 when he decided to test a persistent call to priesthood and entered St. Patrick’s Seminary. Joe has been involved with youth ministries and he\, along with the priests of San Jose\, were asking\, “Where are the young people?” After two years of developing strategies with the help of the National Study of Youth and Religion\, he was made chair of the evangelization effort of the Diocese of San Jose by Bishop McGrath in 2013. That effort is called “Catholic on Purpose”. Come and hear about your role in the evangelization plan for the Diocese of San Jose. \nMembers: $15Non-Members: $20RSVP by April 8th: www.catholicprofessionals.org or cpbcinfo@gmail.com or 408-491-9229 \nClick here to download a flyer.

SUMMARY:Discernment: A Silent Retreat for Women
DESCRIPTION:Ignatius of Loyola said that discernment is the interpretation of the “motions of the soul.” These interior movements consist of many things: thoughts\, emotions\, desires\, repulsions\, attractions. Spiritual discernment involves becoming sensitive to these movements\, reflecting on them\, and understanding where they come from and where they lead us. We will spend time exploring how to be more attentive in prayer\, to recognize the movements of our soul\, and see more clearly how God calls us every day. \nCall Carmel Smith to register – space is limited! (650) 917-4010 or register on our website.

SUMMARY:Where on Earth is He?
DESCRIPTION:So\, Ignatius said to find God in all things. But how do we do that? How did Ignatius learn to recognize the presence of God everywhere? We will look to see how faith\, life\, relationships\, and values lead us toward God. What have we got to learn from the barriers that Ignatius faced — and how do we utilize his wisdom today? A Silent Retreat for Men directed by Dr. Tom Powers & Ms. Anne Grycz. Register online at www.jrclosaltos.org or by calling Carmel Smith at 650-917-4000.
