SUMMARY:Diocesan Simbang Gabi Mass Kickoff
DESCRIPTION:Simbang Gabi is a devotional\, nine-day series of Masses attended by Filipino Catholics as a spiritual preparation for the coming of Jesus Christ on Christmas.\nThe Spanish missionaries brought the practice to deepen the faith of the people of the Philippines.  The Simbang Gabi\, a novena of Mass\, first introduced in Mexico\, was known as Misa de Gallo. The masses were celebrated as early as 4:00 a.m. to allow farmers to participate in the liturgy before they went to the fields.  Simbang Gabi is a long Catholic tradition among many Filipinos not only in the Philippines but all over the world where Filipinos find homes.    \nSimbang Gabi masses are occurring throughout the diocese beginning December 15th.  Look for the nine-day series of Masses to be announced soon. \nThis year’s Kick-off of Simbang Gabi is on Saturday\, December 10 at 7:00 PM at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish.  There will be Blessing of Parols (lantern) and a reception following the Mass. \nThe Simbang Gabi Kick-off Mass is hosted by The Diocesan Council of Filipino Catholics (DCFC)

All are invited to a special Holy Hour of prayer for Immigrants on Tuesday\, December 9\, the Feast of St. Juan Diego\, at 7:00 PM at Holy Cross Church (580 Jackson St.\, San José). \n In this busy season of Advent\, we pause as a diocesan family to pray for those who live with uncertainty\, separation\, and hardship due to their immigration status\, the color of their skin\, or their national background. Guided by the witness of Saint Juan Diego—an Indigenous saint whose humility\, courage\, and steadfast faith opened the way for God’s tender message of hope—we gather to seek the intercession of Our Lady of Guadalupe and to pray for justice\, compassion\, and protection for all human brothers and sisters who migrate\, seek refuge or asylum in our beloved country. \n Please join us in this time of prayer to the Eucharistic Lord Jesus as we lift up those who long for safety\, dignity\, and peace. As the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) gathered for their Fall Plenary Assembly in Baltimore\, the bishops issued a Special Message addressing their concern for the evolving situation impacting immigrants in the United States. It marked the first time in twelve years the USCCB invoked this particularly urgent way of speaking as a body of bishops.
