SUMMARY:Poverty Simulation
DESCRIPTION:As we begin this new year\, I’d like to share with you a wonderful opportunity for prayer\, reflection and solidarity with the needy of our valley: the Poverty Simulation. I encourage you and your family to attend this Poverty Simulation. Children in 6th grade and older are welcome. \nThe Poverty Simulation is a unique tool to educate our community by role-playing the day-to-day realities of people struggling with poverty. It’s an opportunity for each of us to experience a taste of what the people we serve experience. During the simulation\, each participant will be a member of a low-income community\, struggling to provide food\, shelter and other basic necessities while navigating through community resources. \nIf you attend the Poverty Simulation\, you can consider having your own parish experience it. \nPlease register here: www.eventbrite.com/e/poverty-simulation-tickets-9015412341. Please register soon so we have a count of the number of people coming so that we can prepare. \nPlease contact Deacon Don Sifferman at dsifferman@dsj.org or 408-257-2262 if you have any questions.

DESCRIPTION:Non-silent Retreat for Women & Men Ages 21-40Mr. Michael Downs\, Fr. Radmar Jao\, S.J.\, Mr. Kyle Lierk\, Ms. Jessica Mueller\, & Ms. Jocelyn Sideco \nLife is filled with chaos and noise: demanding work schedules\, intense relationships\, painful loss and tragedy\, and feelings of misdirection. You will gather with other young adults from around the Bay Area to connect and share stories\, as well as have the opportunity for some time in silence with God\, to re-image your networked self. \nWe will teach you contemplative prayers that you will be able to implant into your daily routines in an effort to keep life in balance. \nIf you are seeking re-connection with God and others\, healing\, a quiet moment\, or time to remember that you are beloved\, give yourself the gift of this retreat. Unplug and connect! \nCost: $270 Contact (650) 917-4047 to register.

SUMMARY:Pope Francis to Launch Global Hunger Campaign
DESCRIPTION:On Tuesday\, December 10\, 2013\, Pope Francis will launch a worldwide movement to respond to the needs of the poor and vulnerable in our midst by praying and acting to end hunger. \nAt noon local time on December 10th\, a global wave of prayer will begin on the Island of Samoa and will progress around the world in each time zone until it reaches the island again some 24 hours and more than 164 countries later. \nThe objective is to unite the voices of the Catholic community around the globe to end the scandal of world hunger and all are invited to participate. \nPlease consider praying the attached prayer at noon on December 10 wherever you are and organizing your workplace or other groups to join you. \nClick here to download the prayer.\nCampaign Prayer \nO God\, you entrusted to us the fruits of all creation so that we might care for the earth and be nourished with its bounty. \nYou sent us your Son to share our very flesh and blood and  to teach us your Law of Love. Through His death and resurrection\, we have been formed into one human family. \nJesus  showed great concern for those who had no food – even transforming five loaves and two fish into a banquet that served five thousand and many more. \nWe come before you\, O God\, conscious of our faults and failures\, but full of hope\, to share food with all members in this global family. \nThrough your wisdom\, inspire leaders of government and of business\, as well as all the world’s citizens\, to find just\, and charitable solutions to end hunger by assuring that all people enjoy the right to food. \nThus we pray\, O God\, that when we present ourselves for Divine Judgment\, we can proclaim ourselves as “One Human Family” with “Food for All”. AMEN.

SUMMARY:Annual Layette Tea
DESCRIPTION:Once again\, we are gathering to celebrate the Annual Layette Celebration\, Sunday\, December 8\, 2013 at 3:00p.m. at St. Martin of Tours\, 200 O’Connor Drive\, San Jose\, CA 95128. This year the event will include “high tea” and begin later. The hall will be open by 2:00p.m. for dropping off layettes or to set up your table (do not arrive before 2:00pm). The purpose of this event is to gather infant clothing and other baby items to help those families in need. Many people express their interest in helping by attending the event\, by providing new items for the layettes\, or by donating money to the layette fund. Perhaps your RCIA groups\, Small Christian Communities\, parish school groups\, social justice or pro-life committees\, or youth groups would be interested in coordinating such an activity. For more information you may contact Lucille Bianco at 408-730-4672 or Adriana Valenzuela at 408-983-0124 or Valenzuela@dsj.org. Many thanks for your support and assistance in this essential ministry which does so much to support the cause of life by providing practical aid to needy mothers and their infants.
