SUMMARY:The Liturgy and the Church of Vatican II: Does It Matter?
DESCRIPTION:Have you ever wondered: \n– Why does Vatican II matter at all today? Isn’t that past history\, and shouldn’t we focus on the future of the Church? – What happened at Vatican II that makes any difference to how we celebrate the Mass today? – How do the changes made by Vatican II affect me personally and the future of the Church today? – What would happen if Vatican II had never existed? What would happen if the Church leaders today really embraced what happened at Vatican II? \nAs the Church marks 50 years since Vatican II’s first document on the liturgy\, the Diocese of San Jose\, in collaboration with several communities of women religious in the Bay Area\, will host a day-long workshop with Massimo Faggioli\, PhD\, a world-renowned theologian and expert on the history and meaning of Vatican II. Dr. Faggioli will help us understand the deeper meaning behind the Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy\, why some still resist the work of the Council\, and what the past has to show us about our future as Church. \nFor more information and to register: https://dsjstaging.wpengine.com/blog/liturgical-reform-church-vatican-ii-december-7-2013/

SUMMARY:Forming Intentional Disciples: Staff and Coordinator Training Day
DESCRIPTION:Sherry Weddell’s and Fr. Michael Fones’ workshop will invite us to wrestle with the implications of forming intentional disciples. We will address: \n– today’s spiritual climate – thresholds of pre-discipleship – intro to threshold conversation \nThe presentation will be given in English with language discussion groups. \nIt is highly recommended to read the book Forming Intentional Disciples — The Path to Knowing and Following Jesus by Sherry A. Weddell\, Our Sunday Visitor Publishing before attending the training. \nHere’s what one participant from the Diocese of Lansing\, Michigan\, said of Sherry’s workshop: People are more than happy. It was revolutionary. I spoke to a few people who were definitely shocked at the idea that they could have a personal relationship with Christ. One DRE said it was the most amazing diocesan event he had been to in 14 years of ministry. Another said she had to go back and completely rethink all of her programming. Another RCIA director wrote me today that said he needed to completely revamp how they evaluated participants and taught according to the thresholds. Several priests have said it will change the way they help people grow close to God. \nSherry Weddell co-founded the Catherine of Siena Institute with Father Michael Sweeney\, O.P.\, to equip parishes to form lay Catholics for their mission in the world. Sherry created the first gifts-discernment program designed especially for Catholics\, and she currently leads CSI’s international team of teachers and facilitators\, who have formed over 85\,000 lay\, religious and ordained Catholics in 105 dioceses in the art of evangelizing postmoderns\, in gifts and vocational discernment\, and in understanding the theology and mission of the laity. \nFr. Michael Fones\, O.P. was ordained in 1992 and has served in campus ministry at Arizona State University\, and the Universities of Utah\, Oregon and Arizona. Currently he is the co-Director of the Catherine of Siena Institute\, a program of the Western Province dedicated to the transformation of parishes into centers of formation for lay apostles. He works with Sherry Weddell\, who co-founded the Institute with Fr. Michael Sweeney\, O.P. \nLocation: Our Lady of Peace Gym\, 2800 Mission College Blvd.\, Santa Clara\, 95054 Registration: $15.00 each attendee for lunch and hospitality; please make checks payable to: \nDiocese of San Jose\, Attn: Semi Gurbiel 1150 North First St.\, Suite 100 San Jose\, CA 95112 \nClick here to download a flyer.

SUMMARY:Golden Jubilee Mass
DESCRIPTION:The Church of the Resurrection is celebrating their Golden Jubilee Year\, with open hearts and minds to God’s presence in every one. The Golden Jubilee Mass is November 10th\, 11:30 a.m. Bishop McGrath will be celebrating the Mass\, as well current and past priests of the parish. Blessed thanksgiving\, prayers and hopeful energy are in the air! The parish remembers and thanks the founders while celebrating the Body of Christ that the faith community is today. \nThroughout its history and now\, under the guidance of Pope Francis\, the Resurrection community reaches out to those in need\, striving to be the eyes and hands of Christ. Parishioners care for others through the works of St. Vincent de Paul\, Catholic Charities\, missions\, youth group and faith sharing community service projects\, Eucharist to the homebound and to nursing facilities\, and their vigorous and generous Fil-Am community. The newest outreach\, the “Caregiver’s Circle\,” is a loving ministry that delivers meals\, runs errands\, and visits and prays with those in need to let them know that they are not alone! The priests of the parish lovingly touch the lives of others through prison\, school and hospital ministries\, sacraments\, and counseling. \nInspired and blossoming this year under the guidance\, faith and inspiration of Pope Francis\, the Church of the Resurrection celebrates the Grace of the Holy Spirit and the blessings that abound in their lives. Pope Francis calls everyone to live their lives in harmony with those around them\, deepen their relationship with God\, follow the footsteps of Jesus\, reaching out to the poor\, the sick and the marginalized in society. The Resurrection community feels the challenge then to take a new look at their faith\, lives and ministries as they follow the Pope into a time of renewed respect\, appreciation\, love and compassion for all God’s children. \nBuilding upon the work of the founders\, their sacrifices and prayers\, the Resurrection community continues the legacy and prayerfully walks forward\, together in Christ\, which is their path of hope into the future. \nPope Francis reminds everyone… What have I done for Christ? What am I doing for Christ? What should I do for Christ? \nHappy 50th Anniversary Church of the Resurrection!
