SUMMARY:CRS Rice Bowl Speaker from Ghana
DESCRIPTION:Come hear Thomas Awiapo’s inspiring story of survival and success. Orphaned before the age of 10\, Thomas survived bleak poverty and hunger in his small African village in Ghana. At age 12\, his search for food led him to a school where Catholic Relief Services (CRS) – with funds contributed through the CRS Rice Bowl program – was providing lunch. \nBecause of this food\, Thomas survived and continued school\, earning a master’s degree. Today\, Thomas works for CRS and trains community leaders throughout Ghana. Thomas shows us how our participation in CRS Rice Bowls brings compassion\, food and hope around the world. \nClick here to download a flyer.

SUMMARY:"After God: Contemporary Continental Philosophy of Religion"
DESCRIPTION:A lecture by Richard Kearney (Boston College). Professor Kearney holds the Charles B. Seelig Chair of Philosophy at Boston College and has served as a Visiting Professor at University College Dublin\, the University of Paris (Sorbonne)\, the Australian Catholic University\, and the University of Nice. \nThis talk will discuss the new “religious turn” in contemporary continental thought. Citing such figures as Levinas\, Derrida and Ricoeur\, the question is posed: how do we rethink God after the death of God? Beyond the poles of dogmatic theism and atheism\, a third option will be explored: ana-theism. \nClick here for more information.

Joe has been involved with youth ministries and he\, along with the priests of San Jose\, were asking\, “Where are the young people?” After two years of developing strategies with the help of the National Study of Youth and Religion\, he was made chair of the evangelization effort of the Diocese of San Jose by Bishop McGrath in 2013. That effort is called “Catholic on Purpose”.
