On the Sunday before Labor Day, speakers are available from the Interfaith Council of Religion, Race, and Economic & Social Justice to speak at parishes about the dignity of work and the rights of workers.  This year, the Interfaith Council will emphasize the need for people of faith to stand with hotel workers in their struggle for justice.  To invite a labor or union leader to speak at your parish or for questions, contact Rev. Rebecca Kuiken at 408-269-7872 or by email at rebecca@atwork.org.  A packet of materials on Catholic social teaching on the rights of workers is available online on the Social Ministries webpage for the Diocese of San Jose.  These materials were also distributed in May 2009 to pastors and Parish Social Justice Liaisons.

In compliance with the Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People, Safe Environment and Sexual Conduct Training and the Adult Pastoral Code of Conduct is required of all diocesan personnel: priests, deacons, pastoral ministers, administrators, principals, teachers, staff, and volunteers. This training is a condition of employment and is expected to be completed within 6 months of hire for new employees. Training is valid for three years.  Volunteers, as well as employees who need to recertify their training, have the option of completing the training requirement by attending a live workshop or taking the training online at www.shieldthevulnerable.org.   New employees are required to attend the live presentation of the Safe Environment and Sexual Conduct Training.
