Catholic Church of San Jose in Jamaica (Mission Jamaica)
In 2007 the Diocese of San Jose, California, in partnership with Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers, committed to assisting the Diocese of Montego Bay, Jamaica. The result was the Evangelization Team of the Diocese of Montego Bay, established with the mission of promoting faith formation and lay leadership development throughout the diocese. The purpose of this blog is to keep the people of the Diocese of San Jose informed of the activities of their representatives in the Diocese of Montego Bay. Below are some recent posts. Institute for Servant Ministry April 2012
Ms. Anne Grycz and Dr. Kevin Grimes traveled from San Jose to lead the group in a reflection of the "Gifts of the Holy Spirit" April 13-15. What a Spirit-filled time we had! Among the highlights was taking the Spiritual Gifts Inventory. This exercise revealed for many some surprises as to what God might be calling them to in ministry and in life. Read more...

Mustard Seed Communities Christmas Pagaent
Yesterday Dec 15 Mustard Seed Communities celebrated its annual Christmas pageant. Homes from all over the island sent representatives to the Jerusalem! facility in Spanish Town. Included were kids and caregivers from the Montego Bay Diocese facilities: Jacob's Ladder, Widow's Mite and Blessed Assurance--of which I am chaplain. Read more...

Diocese of Montego Bay Institute for Servant Ministry Nov 2011
The Diocese of Montego Bay Institute for Servant Ministry kicked off its second year with weekend #5. San Jose's Lupita Vital, Director of the Hispanic Apostolate, came to help me teach the Sacraments module. Thirty-three participants from fourteen parishes and missions attended. Read more...

Kingston Deacon Peter Espeut captivated and inspired the ISM partipants April 1-3 with "The History of the Church In Jamaica." With a view to asking important questions about contemporary Catholic evangelization, Deacon Peter shared the histories of other Christian Churches--such as Anglicans, Moravians and Baptists--who have also come to Jamaica. The People of Hope Hospice
Hope Hospice is one of the holy sites of the Church of Montego Bay.While still fulfilling its original mission to serve those dying of AIDS, it is also now a shelter for anyone in need of round the clock care. Fr Leo and I make the weekly 30 minute drive from Falmouth take communion to the Catholics and sing and pray with everyone. Read more...

The Evangelization Team
In 2007 Fr. Tim Kidney was sent by Bishop McGrath on behalf of the Diocese of San Jose to be a missionary to the Catholic Diocese of Montego Bay, Jamaica. He pioneered a unique collaboration with Fr. Leo Shea of the Maryknoll Mission Society to build up the local church through the formation of lay leaders. Read more...
