Life and Family Initiatives
Join Catholics in California in Supporting Two Initiatives Proposed for the November 2012 Election
The Catholic bishops of California are supporting two proposed initiatives for the November 2012 ballot: the Parental Notification Initiative (PNI), which would require that parents be notified when a teenage girl aged 12-17 seeks an abortion, and the SAFE California Initiative, would replace the death penalty with a sentence of life imprisonment without possibility of parole. The convergence of these two initiatives presents a “unique teaching moment” on vital issues of life, dignity, and family, according to the bishops. Bishop McGrath has directed every parish to participate in the effort to gather signatures for both of these initiatives, before and after all Masses, on the weekends of February 18/19 and 25/26.
