Institute for Leadership in Ministry
> Spanish

Admissions

Individuals interested in applying for the Institute must be recommended by their pastor. A person being considered fro the Institute should possess the following:

  • a call to the ministry of leadership within the Catholic community
  • recent participation in some form of pastoral ministry
  • demonstrated or potential leadership ability
  • a willingness to commit to 10–12 hours per month for classes and seminars
  • the ability to devote additional hours outside of class for reading and writing papers.

A pastor is asked to write a letter to the Director of the Institute for each candidate he is recommending. It will be helpful if the letter speaks to the criteria for admission (listed above) and includes the individual’s address and telephone number.

Candidates will be contacted by the Director and asked to write a short essay outlining the benefits they hope to receive from their participation as well as the gifts and/or talents they will bring to the Institute. Although the essay is not mandatory, students are encouraged to complete the assignment as a way of sharing insights about themselves as well as their hopes and dreams for the future.

A parish may nominate several candidates; if the class is full, students will be placed on a waiting list in the order in which their applications were received. Pastors may nominate candidates for both the English and the Spanish speaking program.

The announcement concerning nominations will be sent to all pastors in February each year with the request that letters of recommendation be mailed to the Director by the middle of June. The Institute usually begins the third week of September.

Students are accepted on a “first come first served” basis. When a class is full, the applicant will be placed on a waiting list and are guaranteed admission the following year.
