Greetings from Bishop Patrick J. McGrath
To
be called to the Priesthood in this day and age is both
a gift and a challenge. It requires a generous heart,
an open mind, and a very courageous spirit.
A priestly vocation is not a gift that is given merely to enrich and better one’s own self, but rather a gift that is given with the responsibility and the expectation that the gift will be shared with others.
“Friendship
with Jesus Christ should be the most profound and ultimate
motive that gives one courage to become a priest.”
Walter Kasper
Greetings from Father Mark Catalana, Director
Our
Diocese, known throughout the world as “Silicon
Valley,” is composed of 51 parishes and 1 mission.
Our priests, brothers, and sisters represent the rich
cultural diversity found in Santa Clara County.
Answering the call to serve Christ and his Church is always rewarding. As Cardinal John Newman once wrote, “God has a purpose for each of us- a vocation to be lived out in faith and obedience. He knows what He is about.” In our vocations office, we endeavor to help people discern the call to service as a priest, sister, or brother. The most important element in the discernment process is developing a healthy, vibrant prayer life. For the Christian, the question in life is not simply, “What do I want to do with my life?,” but “What do You, Lord, want me do with my life?”
