Over 1,200 fans packed the Fien Gymnasium at Archbishop Mitty High School on February 1, 2008 to watch the Second Annual Priests vs. Seminarians Basketball Challenge! The REVS Priests Team was made up of 17 priests coming from 13 different parishes and included a retired priest and a priest of the Legionaries of Christ. The SEMS Seminarians team had 14 players - 9 Diocese of San Jose seminarians, a seminarian of the Diocese of Orange studying at Santa Clara University, a novice of the Society of Jesus and 3 brothers of the Legionaries of Christ.
Musical entertainment was provided by the band from Saint Martin of Tours School. Children in the audience had the opportunity to compete in 3 basketball shooting contests and there were multiple door prizes given to lucky fans in attendance.
In the end, the REVS team evened the series by winning with a final score of 52-45. Bishop McGrath awarded the Most Valuable Player trophies and then handed the Championship Cup to the priests. To the delight of the crowd, they celebrated their win with a victory lap around the gym.
All proceeds from the game will be used to help send our seminarians to World Youth Day 2008 in Sydney, Australia and for the Blessed Miguel Pro House college seminarian residence.
