> Priest-seminarian basketball game raises funds for World Youth Day attendance

There were over 1,200 fans in attendance at Archbishop Mitty High School on Friday night, February 2, 2007 as the Priests vs Seminarians Basketball Challenge began with prayer and a humorous pep-talk for the teams by Bishop McGrath!  There were 13 priests from 10 parishes on the REVS Team while the seminarians' SEMS Team was made up of 9 diocesan seminarians and 2 religious brothers.  This fun-filled event also included a live band, step-dance group and basketball shooting contests for 3 age groups.  At the end of an exciting four quarters, the score was tied at 42-42.  In overtime, the Sems Team won the game with a final score of 44-42.  Bishop McGrath then distributed trophies to the teams and to the Most Valuable Player on each team.

All proceeds from the game will help send our seminarians to World Youth Day 2008 in Sydney, Australia joining the youth and young adults of our diocese.  The Vocations Office would like to thank all those who supported the Basketball Challenge including parishes, schools, the District 31 Serra Clubs, Knights of Columbus, Italian Catholic Federation and other organizations. God bless you and please pray for vocations!
